On Thursday, the 3rd Annual Taste of Peoria Heights is kicking off and will shut down Prospect, as restaurants prepare to show off their gourmet food. This is also a part of the village’s 125th birthday and celebration. Twelve restaurants will be taking part this year serving up food for every taste palate.
Due to the long lines from previous years, organizers decided to expand the entries to businesses outside of the village. From Jim’s Bistro to The Publik House and Joe’s Italian & Martini Bar, this year’s Taste of Peoria Heights is sure to please all palates. Restaurants are taking part in Thursday’s event which is expected to bring out hundreds of people.
“The fact that we are here on Prospect Avenue and have so many restaurants on Prospect Avenue, a lot of us can work out of our restaurant right to our store front so I think it gave us a better chance to make it happen and people have responded to it and it’s really going to happen,”
said Hearth Restaurant Owner and Taste of Peoria Heights Chairman Hugh Higgins.
He says because al fresco dining is available for people to sit outdoors, it makes this particular part of the Village a food destination for so many.
“People enjoy the fact there are so many food choices here in the Heights and the fact the village allows us to have this beautiful al fresco dining half the year. We have all these people outside it’s such a wonderful community feeling,” Higgins said.
For those who want to come out, tokens cost $1 each, and are available at various restaurants on Prospect. Wristbands for all-day access to rides are $25.
